KRONDA ON THE ISSUES FACING TEXAS

Why Education Matters So Much to Kronda

As someone of Hispanic heritage whose family came from humble roots, education is personal to Kronda Thimesch.  Her Grandmother Rose Martinez-Mascarenas grew up in a home with dirt floors and didn’t finish high school.  Kronda, however, was able to graduate from college, serve on the local school board, and fight for educational opportunities for everyone.  That is the Texas she wants to preserve for everyone.  Kronda is a parent who has overseen the education of her four children, all of whom graduated from our local public schools.

Getting Smart on Education

As an experienced leader in K-12 education, Kronda knows that a stronger education system means a stronger workforce, which leads to jobs and opportunity for all.  She recognizes that our education system requires a holistic examination on all fronts––as we expand efforts to maximize student health and safety and support parents and teachers, especially in the wake of COVID-19.

During her five-year tenure as an accomplished school board trustee, Kronda supported student and family populations from all walks of life.  She worked in a bipartisan manner to represent Democrats, Republicans, and Independents in one of the largest school districts in Texas.  Kronda will stand up for our retired teachers to ensure they receive the benefits they were promised – and have earned.

Some highlights from Kronda’s service on the Lewisville ISD:

  • Implemented a comprehensive system guaranteeing that the budget properly accounted for the efficient management of resources and facilities.

  • Launched an innovative dashboard program that measures student achievements and growth opportunities in real time. This dashboard gives trustees and educators the necessary tools to ensure that district standards and goals are consistently met. This unique program led other districts and education organizations to invite Kronda to speak and train on how they could implement something similar for themselves.

  • Advocated with our local, state and federal representatives to highlight and solve challenges in K-12 public education, and collaborated for cost-effective solutions that benefit students, teachers and taxpayers.

  • Fought for more funding for public schools, teacher pay raises, and more local control of education.

As State Representative, Kronda will work to ensure that education dollars serve our students and empower our teachers.  With experience in governance and oversight, Kronda remains devoted to achieving meaningful education reform to improve transparency, oversight, and accountability in our school systems. While Kronda is proud of the work she achieved while at Lewisville ISD, she recognizes that there is still much more to be done for the state of Texas, and looks forward to bringing her unique and extensive background to the tasks at hand.

Honoring Promises to Retired Teachers

Kronda will stand up for our retired teachers to ensure they receive the benefits they were promised – and have earned.

Creating Jobs, Getting Texans Back to Work

As a small business owner and employer, Kronda Thimesch is the only candidate endorsed by NFIB (National Federation of Independent Business, the voice of small business in Texas), the Texas Association of Business, and numerous small business leaders here in our community.

Kronda is a proven job creator for our community, growing a successful business that she and her husband launched in their garage over thirty years ago.  She will use that experience to work for policies that create jobs and improve the economy.

Kronda knows that Texas is strongest when we have an economy that can support a growing workforce. Having witnessed firsthand the impacts of over-taxation and heavy-handed regulation, she is committed to reducing these harmful barriers to success for Texas business owners.  She understands that people are losing their businesses and families are struggling.  Kronda is committed to eliminate needless regulations and red tape that harm our businesses so Texans can get back to work.

Protecting Taxpayers

As an advocate in the community who has worked directly with homeowners and community groups, Kronda knows the importance of reforming the property tax system and continuing the fight to cut property taxes. We need to ensure that families are not taxed out of their homes.

Kronda believes that all taxpayers deserve efficient, accountable government.  State Comptroller Glenn Hegar has already warned that the dual hits to sales tax and oil and gas revenue as a result of the pandemic will present significant budget challenges when the Texas Legislature convenes in 2021.  This is a time for us to revisit and refocus on the basics. What does our state government need to provide that other entities cannot? Where can we cut fat and reduce spending on wasteful, unnecessary, or obsolete agencies and programs?

Relying on the innovation and resilience of Texans to solve problems, rather than throwing precious taxpayer dollars at a crisis, will help cut costly and frivolous state spending.

Improving Health Care Access, Lowering Health Care Cost

As a small business owner, Kronda has firsthand experience with skyrocketing health care costs and knows that health care premiums are straining family budgets.  She will work to make health insurance more accessible and affordable by expanding telemedicine, lowering the cost of prescription drugs, and helping small business owners to provide coverage for their employees.  Kronda supports increased funding for women’s health care and providing lower-income women more access to cancer screenings and mammograms.  Kronda opposes polices which take away your ability to choose your own doctor and place the government in charge of health care decisions.

Combating Human Trafficking

Sadly, Texas is a major hub for human sex trafficking – and the thought of our children being abducted is every parent’s nightmare. Not only does Texas rank as the #1 state in the nation for human trafficking, the DFW Metroplex is a magnet for sex trafficking activity and crimes, in large part due to our location along Interstate 35.

Through her work in our schools, and with family members who have worked internationally to support women who have been victimized, Kronda understands that the safety of women and children is at risk.  Kronda is dedicated to the fight against human trafficking so we can protect women and children from predators and assist and care for victims of trafficking and assault.  Kronda supports strong border security so we can protect our families from violent criminals and drug cartels.

Opposing Defunding the Police, Keeping Our Neighborhoods Safe

Kronda Thimesch is an ardent supporter of our first responders and is adamantly opposed to any effort to defund the police.  Kronda believes that citizens are best served when law enforcement and communities have high engagement and strong positive relationships.

The Dallas Police Association has endorsed Kronda, stating, “The Dallas Police Association proudly endorses Kronda Thimesch and ask the voters of District 65 to send her to Austin where she will be a strong advocate for law enforcement. We believe she will work tirelessly for the safety of every family in Texas.”

She is also endorsed by numerous current and former law enforcement leaders with the front-line experience of keeping our neighborhoods safe:

  • Former Police Chief Russ Kerbow

  • Denton County Constable Johnny Hammons, Precinct 1

  • Denton County Constable Mike Truitt, Precinct 2

  • Denton County Constable-Elect Danny Fletcher, Precinct 4

  • Denton County Constable Doug Boydston, Precinct 5

  • Denton County Constable Jerry Raburn, Precinct 3

  • Denton County Constable-Elect Dan Rochelle, Precinct 3

  • Former Carrollton Police Chief David James

  • Sheriff Tracy Murphree

  • Former City of Denton Police Chief Lee Howell

Giving Back with Integrity & Servant Leadership

Kronda believes in giving back to our community.  For 30 years, she has volunteered for charitable and civic organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Children’s Advocacy Center, Rotary, youth sports, PTA, Operation Kindness (she loves pets!), Lewisville ISD Education Foundation, Communities in Schools North Texas, LOVEPACs, football booster clubs, and many others.  She has served her church, Bent Tree Bible Fellowship, in various capacities including Sunday School Teacher and Small Group Leader.

Years in and years out, the issues facing our state may change, but how Kronda will approach those issues won’t change. Those who have worked with her know she is a listener. Kronda believes as a leader it is her duty to have an open door and engage with our community in a meaningful way.  She will always operate with the utmost integrity and model servant leadership.

Defeating COVID, Preparing for the Future

Texas has spent the better part of 2020 responding to COVID-19 at every level.  In the next legislation session, Texas and will need to move forward past crisis response into recovery. Kronda is prepared to bring all her resources and capacities to the table to help support mid-term and long-term solutions to the havoc  this pandemic has wreaked on our state’s health, economy, and education systems.

Kronda has demonstrated her commitment to this community, providing assistance to those effected by COVID-19 through her volunteer work with Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce and Carrollton Mayor Kevin Falconer’s “Safe to Work & Shop” initiative.

Protecting Our 2nd Amendment Freedoms

Kronda firmly believes that Denton County citizens should be able to exercise their Constitutional right to protect themselves and their families, especially during times of chaos and uncertainty.  She will oppose efforts by liberals to infringe on the freedoms of law-abiding citizens.

Defending Life, Opposing Taxpayer Funded Abortions

Kronda is pro-life, will work to defend the sanctity of life, and will oppose taxpayer funding of abortions.  She will be a voice for the unborn and those who cannot defend themselves.  She has financially supported crisis pregnancy centers that offer support to women facing unplanned pregnancies.  Kronda understands the importance of providing assistance to women who choose life but sometimes face an uncertain future as a new mother.
